Hi! This is Lucy. Today I’m going to share the books that I’m currently reading, and also some books that I recommend as gifts since Christmas is coming up!
First up, mom and I just started reading The Birchbark House by Louise Erdrich as our Brave Writer book for December. If you’ve never heard of Brave Writer, you can check out their language arts programs here: bravewriter.com .
I’m also reading on my own, Nick and Tesla’s High Voltage Danger Lab by “Science Bob” Pflugfelder and Steve Hockensmith. It’s the first book in a series about twins Nick and Tesla, who do lots of science experiments, and have a crazy mad scientist uncle that they stay with while their parents are gone. Each book has the instructions in it for the experiments or projects they do, so that you can do them too!
On audio (we always have an audio book on in the car) I am listening to Anne of Green Gables by LM Montgomery and read by Kate Burton. Anne of Green Gables is one of my favorite books, and the reader, Kate Burton, is perfect! I have checked out Anne on audio from the library and listened to it 6 times! Mom and I decided to listen to it again to get ready for the new Anne of Green Gables that came on PBS on Thanksgiving (which I loved!).
Finally, mom is reading out loud to J and me The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus by L Frank Baum to get ready for Christmas. We just started reading it yesterday, so we are only 5 chapters into the book, but so far I love the magical world that baby Claus lives in.
Since Christmas is coming up soon, here are my top recommendations for books to give as gifts!
- The Percy Jackson and the Heroes of Olympus series by Rick Riordon
- The illustrated Harry Potter books by JK Rowling and illustrated by Jim Kay (only the first two books in the series are available right now)
- The Nick and Tesla series (mentioned above) by “Science Bob” Pfugfelder and Steve Hockensmith
- The Who Is/Was…? series
- The Way Things Work Now by David McCauley (this one is on my wish list!)
- Echo Echo Reverso Poems About Greek Myths by Marilyn Singer and illustrated by Josee Masse
That’s it for today! I hope that you like the book recommendations!
